Our History
In May of 1956, Tom Van Houten and Howard Aronin purchased a bookkeeping practice from H.J. Douglas and formed Aronin, Van Houten & Company. Over time, new partnerships evolved: in 1974, partners Jack Threadgill, Jimmy Garrett, and Hal Kidd formed Threadgill, Garrett & Kidd, PC, which transitioned in 1975 to Threadgill & Garrett, PC upon Kidd’s departure. That same year, after Jack Threadgill left to serve as Carroll County Tax Commissioner, the firm became Garrett, Sears, Thomas & Company, PC, welcoming Barry Sears and Frederick Thomas. In 1994, Barry Sears withdrew to establish his own firm, and the company name changed to Garrett, Stephens, Thomas & Company, PC, adding Leamon Stephens. In 2006, the practice became Garrett, Stephens, Thomas & Fazio, PC, which was later renamed Garrett, Thomas & Fazio, PC in 2011. Finally, in January of 2022, the firm was purchased by Shari Reid and Johanna Tallent, marking the latest chapter in its long and distinguished history.
